Featuring NBC’s Fashion Star Designer Ross Bennett

B+T Finally catching up on some recent work including this awesome opportunity  to photograph Ross Bennett’s collection for Broadway+Thresher magazine. The Ross Bennett Collection was founded in 2008 by Ross and his wife, Erin Bennett. The Ross Bennett collection is a labor of love with one main goal in mind: to bring classic, custom tailoring back to modern, everyday life by launching a custom clothing line and is featured in NBC’s ‘Fashion Star.  Cool too, was the jewelery was provided by Austin-based Kendra Scott. The venue was at the Swan Dive in Austin – an all white background, painted and furnished, that was a nice way of highlighting the fashion. I like the way all of them came out, but my favorite pics are the Erica and Kendall pulling the necklace shot and the Mitchell standing at the bar shot (the first two photos). Another speedy photoshoot as the venue allowed us only three hours or so. All were shot with my Pin-up lighting config and post production bumps. There was this modern vintage kind of feel I wanted to capture in this series – a quaint small town downtown Americana thing. See the Behind the Scenes video below:

Fashion Photography Design Pantone 2014 Color Logo

A Two Icon/Word Association Logo Placement

Cestaro_Austin_Fashion_Photography Playing with a very simple square logo concept for user icons, employing iconic symbols to convey meaning, the little black dress for fashion and the camera for photography. Then colorized it employing Pantones 2014 colors of the year. Really think I need to Banksyify it more though.

Recent Product Photography for Sweeney Feeders

Large and Small Products with Details on White

cestaro-photo-products-for-sweeney-feeders  Sweeney Feeders is a Texas company and have been around since the 60’s and they have just revamped their web presence with a new site and new product photography by me working with Space Chimp Media. These feeders automatically feed, deer, fish, and birds, some the size of small refrigerators. Each product had multiple angles shot highlighting best personality and features with bright specular rear highlight and soft side fronts on white. Back or side lit details lent itself to three dimensional brightness. Shooting clean from the start made post-production easy.  On location environmental shots was the second day of the shoot.

Vintage Styled Band Art

Alt-J art concept Good friend, model, stylist, MAU Brittany Thomas conceptualized this vintage band art while on location for our Fine Art shoot at a farm ruin in Neiderwald, Texas. She recently saw the band Alt-J in Austin and art directed this vintage leggy image. The 3 o’clock sun lit the main scene, a vintage scout 4×4 abandoned near a falling barn. With her stocking high-heeled legs draped over the door with Alt-J hand sign, a portable flash to the right countered shadows from the sun to the left. Post production bumps and leg edge burn and center leg dodge gives a vintage edge.

Lydia Strikes Again!

Easy Breezy Beachy Looks from Central Texas.Cestaro Fashion Photography  Currently catching up on posts from the summer including these from the July 4th weekend here in Austin Texas. Kind of a last minute let’s go shoot  Cestaro Fashion Photography (3)something cool collaboration with self styled Lydia and testing my new and latest Pentax K5II. These were done on Cestaro Fashion Photography (2)Lake Travis (dammed up Colorado River) which is drying up and revealing new spits of land previously underwater.  We started in the late afternoon on the north side of the cliffs and sand bar so as to have a overall back-lit scene in the bright sun and used reflectors and overexposure for initial lighting. I had a portable softbox studio light too, but wasn’t happy with the “typical” looks I was getting with it.  Cross and bleach post process rounded out the image. It is real easy to shoot Lydia. Once the camera settings and shooting style are set, all you really have to do is press the button as she does her thing. Shipwrecked castaway and coming out of the water in the nicely woven Cestaro Fashion Photography (4)metallic skirt and woven fabric top series was my favorite Ad worthy scene. Likewise, was the black bikini with star spangled wrap images which are very cool and fun editorials, highlighting her statuesque figure and fun attitude. I tried to make sure the background hills and houses were not in scene or at least looked like distant land or islands across a large bay or lagoon. The shoot ended with grabbing fun editorials getting an cold Icee near the beach in her red nautical tube top and red hot shorts. There were so many too choose from but we got a pretty good final selection. The contact sheet below shows the overall faves of the day. I really wish I was more a shooter when I grew up in Florida back in the day!Cestaro Fashion Photography (5)

Stephen MacMillian Moser Fashions

Fashion Week Finale Backstage Shoot

I had a great opportunity recently to photograph Stephen Moser’s latest Made in Heaven collection including the headdresses of Jennifer Ayers behind the scenes right off the runway the night of the AFW 2013 fashion awards, where our mash-up team, Vintage Deity won a golden boot, as did designer Moser for his long work in design. From the Austin Fashion Week website…”Segueing from costuming inCestaro-Moser-Fashionto fashion (but NEVER losing his since of theatricality), Stephen career took him from designing clothes for Divine in San Francisco in 1979; to selling his wares to Seattle boutiques throughout the 80s; to the windows of Bergdorf-Goodman, Henri Bendel, Saks Fifth Avenue, Felissimo, Frank Stella in the 90s, along with appearing in W Magazine, WWD, DNR and many other trade publications. After selling designs to the likes of Beverly Sills, Ivana Trump, and Anjelica Huston, Stephen returned to Austin in 1999 as the Style Avatar, with his After a Fashion column covering the style and social scene for the Austin Chronicle for the past 14 years. While his lifelong love affair with designing clothes often caused great heartache and he’s quit the business a dozen times, Stephen returned to the runway with a celebrity-studded, hi-glam fashion show at the Driskill in November 2011, called Eleven Eleven. Followed by a sensational display of design in Dallas, Stephen, Austin’s Grand Old Man of Fashion, is showing at the Austin Fashion Awards for the first time.

Cestaro Moser FashionPoster

This was one of the fastest fashion shoots I have ever done for a large group. I set up a black backdrop from ceiling to floor and two portable studio lights, 1 soft sidelight and 1 bright rear spot, unfortunately the spot was non functioning so I had to use the single soft. This was done in the tiny green room backstage as the mods exited the runway. I shot five photos for each model, a head shot, a couple of 3/4’s and a couple of full size’s in various poses and then on to the next. It took all of 20 minutes to shoot the crew, and even thought it was digital and I can see my work,  I was still nervous that I may have not got “the shot”, especially with the one light situation. It was in post production of the individual pics that I recognized the opportunity to photodesign the full cast in one amazing panoramic image. The main light was high to the right when I shot, but horizontal flip in Photoshop on half the crew made the light high to the left.  Assuming a central godly light on the center three models, artistically placing the left lit right lit in the opposite appropriate way yields a believable group photo homage to a stunning fashion show and designer.

Recent Lookbook Imagery for Faith by Jessica

A RETURN TO THE STUDIO   I have been “a little” behind on updating recent activity but there has been a lot of good imagery shot since posting last which will be highlighted in future upcoming posts. I do a lot of editorial fashion work, mostly on location, but what designers really need are true color clean studio looks of their current line to show prospective buyers- a lookbook. On my end, its a rather formulaic studio set-up, evenly lit, the importance being showing the fabric, fit and special design elements first over the model.

Look Book Examples

Look Book Example is an apparel brand that was established with the desire to bring glamour and elegance to a woman’s wardrobe. The label was created by the amazing young designer, Jessica Faith Marshall, to inspire women to dress in clothing that makes them feel chic and well put together. When the brand began in 2012, it was named J. Designs Fashions, in 2013 it was renamed to Faith by Jessica to more accurately reflect the refinement of the line.

This image to the right was our first editorial phoFaith by Jessica by Cestarotoshoot during Austin Fashion Week 2012 at the Driskill hotel. It was studio light lit, high and crossed with central ceiling burst on full. Post production included dodge and burns and blurs.  Jessica appears as the girl on the left in the two girl photo above and in the purplish jacket in the image to the right.  It is really good to see someone so young being able to run a fashion design business with such focus, I can’t wait to see what happens next!
