Shooting on the Side

Traveling Light with a Travel Lite        I  was shooting photos and videos during Austin Fashion Week a couple of weeks back, this time at the Driskill Hotel. My main mission was available light photoshoot of the well-lit runway and video for a swimwear designer, Tikini Hut. I also brought with  me, my portable flash and big softbox umbrella because a friend of mine from Cali was walking that night and she wanted some new shots from me.  Getting there early to set up and relax on the balcony downtown was just the thing to do and gave me plenty of time to find a cool spot at the hotel.

An ornate room next to the runway was where we decided to shoot. These are the two faves from that 10 minute shoot before fittings started.  Fairly simple one soft light three-dimensional lighting just to the side of the scene. I shot these low kneeling to give the model more of a sense of tallness. Post production was saturation bumps and burning mostly. For the couch shot, I changed the wall and added texture and added grain and textured vignetting, and also redid falling hair with my new bamboo pen and tablet. Sometimes simpler is better and its good to have a portable studio light source other than on camera flashes. The look is so different.
